Dr Andrea Jones, a Darlington GP, will chair a board of GPs, clinicians and lay members for DCCG.
Originally from Leeds, Dr Jones, 50, gained her MB BS medical qualification In 1986 at Newcastle University before undertaking GP training at Denmark Street Surgery in Darlington. Qualifying as a GP in 1990, she joined the former Netherlaw Surgery, now Blacketts, in 1991.
Dr Jones, whose involvement with the former PCT began when, as musculoskeletal lead, she established a service based in the community for patients with arthritis, joint and soft tissue treatments. Its aim was to help to reduce hospital referrals.
As chairwoman of the DCCG her role will involve an increased commitment to management responsibilities, including overall responsibility of the governing body and engagement of clinicians, the public, patients and key stakeholders.
